(aged 42) started 2016 with the objective of completing the Gold Coast marathon in under 4 hours. Sean developed a tailored programme with this objective in mind. The year started slowly for David with a 48m:47s at the Sun Run 10km in February. Committing to the programme David’s results gradually started to improve, completing the Striders 10km in 44m:48s in March. David then attended the SWEAT Easter Training Camp in Townsville. The hard work at the camp gave David a boost to his performance completing the next Striders event in 43m:10s and the Sydney 10 in 42m:15s. A month later David completed the SMH Half Marathon in 1hr:34m; the quickest time for David at this distance since September 2014.
The programme then focussed on building David’s endurance. Completing weekly training runs with the SWEAT Sydney squad of up to 36km David’s performance started improving dramatically. Focussing on a consistent pace during the marathon David completed the Gold Coast Marathon in 3h:52m, which represented an improvement of 18 minutes on his PB.
Key races for David over the remainder of the year include; City-to-Surf, Bilpin Bush Run and the Blackmore’s Half Marathon.
